The Flatbush Frolic Moved to a Saturday, and Cortelyou Road Gets a Two-Day Weekend

"Rain date TBD!!" Flatbush Development Corporation's event page for the 2026 Flatbush Frolic still reads that way, under a "[POSTPONED]" label and the original date of September 27. If you checked that page after the postponement and filed the fair away as "sometime, maybe," you have probably missed the update. FDC set a new date, and it's this weekend.

The Frolic is now on Saturday, October 10, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., on Cortelyou Road between Coney Island Avenue and Ocean Avenue. The fair used to be a Sunday event. Now that it's on a Saturday, the block it shares with the Cortelyou Greenmarket hosts two big gatherings back to back, and the second one is already part of your Sunday routine.

Two FDC Pages, One Date That Counts

FDC has two Frolic pages online, and they disagree. The older one is the postponement notice. The newer one, posted September 30, has the heading "The Flatbush Frolic Saturday, October 10th" and the 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. hours. Some text from the original plan was never updated, though. The page's opening line says the fair "will be back in September," and a later paragraph calls it "the perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon." The rides blurb invites families out for "the last weekend of summer."

Brooklyn Community Board 14's calendar, posted October 1, settles it. It lists October 10, 2026, 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with Flatbush Development Corporation as the organizer. Days after the original date, the fair was rescheduled and still being promoted, not canceled.

Here's what stays the same. The route still runs the full length of Cortelyou between Coney Island and Ocean avenues. Admission is free. Food, rides and vendor goods are priced individually. FDC says you don't need an RSVP.

What Saturday Brings to Cortelyou

FDC says the fair has been "celebrating community spirit since 1975," and its 2025 listing called last year the 50th Frolic it had run. FDC calls it "one of the oldest street festivals in Brooklyn." In Brownstoner's September preview, Susan De Vries wrote that the festival typically brings more than 200 vendors to the street.

FDC's description of the day, from its October 10 page:

  • Food booths offering "everything from local favorites to global flavors"
  • Artists, crafters, local businesses and nonprofits in tents along the route
  • Multiple stages with bands and performers through the afternoon
  • Pony rides and carnival games
  • Kids' activities, including murals, crafts and chess challenges

The organizers also have two practical tips. Arrive early, since popular food stalls and rides can sell out. Bring cash, because many vendors now take cards but cash is still faster at a lot of booths. This year's sponsors are MetroPlus and the Flatbush Food Coop.

The Lineup Was Announced for September

Before the postponement, Brownstoner reported that the main stage would have a steel band, a magician, dancers and more throughout the day. It also said the Hoop Bus, new this year, would set up basketball near Cortelyou Road and East 19th Street.

That was the plan for Sunday, September 27. FDC's October 10 page doesn't name any performers, and it doesn't confirm that the September lineup or the Hoop Bus carried over. If the steel band or the East 19th Street basketball is what's drawing your family, look for them on the day before planning around them. FDC takes questions about the festival at [email protected].

The published sources also don't cover street-closure hours, parking restrictions or traffic diversions. If you park on or near Cortelyou, check the posted signs on your block Friday evening.

Sunday Morning on the Same Blocks

The Saturday date matters most for what happens next. The Cortelyou Greenmarket runs Sundays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Cortelyou Road between Argyle and Rugby Roads, and GrowNYC lists it as a year-round market. Argyle and Rugby sit inside the Frolic's route, between Coney Island Avenue and Ocean Avenue.

The fair's recent dates have been Sundays. Last year's Frolic was on Sunday, September 21, 2025. This year's original date, September 27, was also a Sunday. The new date gives the fair its own day, and GrowNYC's schedule puts the market on the same stretch about fourteen hours after the last booth is due to close.

Put together, the weekend lays out simply. Saturday is the fair, the stages and the rides. Sunday morning, the street settles back to its usual market hours, with the same blocks and produce stands in place of the carnival tents. Saturday's crowd and Sunday's errands land on separate days.

The Storefronts Along the Route

The fair fills the roadway, but the year-round businesses along Cortelyou are behind the tents both days. Several have current hours on their own websites. These pages carry no publication date, so check them again before you head out.

The Castello Plan at 1213 Cortelyou Road lists daily hours on its site.

Sycamore at 1118 Cortelyou Road is a bar with a flower shop, which its site lists as open Tuesday through Sunday. The site already has a 2026 Halloween image up, and a florist on the fair route is a handy stop if you're picking up something for the house before October 31.

Corthaiyou at 1310 Cortelyou Road lists hours that include weekends and takes orders online through its site.

Mimi's offers same-day delivery and takeout from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. through its ordering page, which lists 1035 Cortelyou Road. Older guides give a different Cortelyou address for Mimi's Hummus, so use the ordering page for the current location.

Weekend hours at any of these businesses may change while the street is closed. Saturday's food booths will be competing with these kitchens for your lunch. On Sunday, these kitchens are the only dining on the block.

If You Want the Park Between the Two Days

Prospect Park is a short trip north for anyone who wants a quieter stretch this weekend. The Prospect Park Alliance's Audubon Center has free nature exploration on both October 10 and October 11, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Boathouse at 101 East Drive, according to Brooklyn Bridge Parents' weekly roundup of free events. The Alliance is also running free Pop-Up Audubon activities both days from noon to 4 p.m., with locations posted by the Alliance.

The morning Boathouse session ends at 1 p.m. The Frolic runs until 6 p.m. on Saturday, and Sunday's market opens at 8 a.m. A Saturday that starts at the Boathouse can end on Cortelyou with the fair still going. On Sunday, the market comes first and closes at 2 p.m., an hour after the morning Audubon session wraps up.

A Few Practical Notes for Saturday

  • Go by the October 10 date. FDC's postponement page, its leftover "September" and "Sunday" wording, and a Brooklyn Bridge Parents festival roundup still showing the new date as unannounced all predate the reschedule.
  • Bring cash. FDC says it's faster at many booths.
  • Arrive near 11 a.m. if rides or a specific food stall matter to you, because FDC says popular ones can sell out.
  • Treat the September lineup as unconfirmed. The steel band, magician, dancers and Hoop Bus were announced for September 27.
  • Plan on the Greenmarket for Sunday. It runs 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. between Argyle and Rugby.
